The November Student of the Month Winner is Katherine Whitney! Here is what the teachers had to say about her:

Katie Whitney (senior): Katie is an exemplar student who possesses a gift for helping others. She has dedicated her time during the school day to not only focus on her course of studies, but also mentor students in the Life Skills program. She attends the Life Skills math class and connects directly with the students to assist them with their school work and has fostered a personal relationship with every one of these students. She has a natural gift for working with people with disabilities and her positive attitude is infectious! She has been the president of Best Buddies for 3 years and has spent countless hours organizing events and communicating with parents, students, and teachers, to make the program what it is today. She has worked at The Learning Center in town for the last 2 years caring for infants, and her passion is evident through the level of energy and commitment that he applies to her interests.. Katie takes initiative with her teachers, has creative ideas, and is true role model to her peers.

Katie Whitney is always attentive in class and actively participates. She voluntarily helps me with labs and clean up without me asking. I know she also volunteers for Katie Hibbert’s program and Best Buddies. All around she is extremely polite, respectful, and hard-working.

The Student of the Month award is an opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the accomplishments of our students. The criteria for this nomination/recognition is simple and left to the staff’s discretion. They could nominate a student who has shown improvement academically, behaviorally, emotionally etc. or a student who is consistently kind to others. They could also nominate a student who did a really nice thing for someone else selflessly or someone who has shown a new side of themselves the definition is open to your interpretation. Once students are nominated by particular teachers, a ballot is composed and sent out to all of the teachers. Then the voting begins. After a student is selected, they will receive a $50 gift certificate from the ReMax McBride Team and then a $50 Barnes and Noble gift card provided by the HPTA.
